Odissea In Italia

Genoa 2001. The G8 began on a sultry day in July, the heads of the world's most significant powers met, and the city was divided into a yellow zone - with restricted access - and a red zone - strictly reserved. No-global movements and pacifist associations joined in protest. Riots, clashes with the police forces, injuries and one death, Carlo Giuliani as a boy, followed. After Genoa, the forums and demonstrations did not stop, and on 10 November, a procession converged on Rome, marching under the many flags of the people of Genoa. "Not in my name", a hundred thousand people sang to say no to war. While the pacifists paraded through the city's streets, supporters of the war and the United States gathered in Piazza del Popolo/People's Square. Forty thousand shouted the slogan "Lest we forget" to support the Italian troops engaged in Afghanistan alongside the American and British armies.
